A Letter to My Husband

Have you ever just wanted to write your husband a letter, or better yet; just tell him off? Maybe, some of you are blessed to have the amazing husbands that clean up at home, help attentively with the kids and don’t drive you even crazier than you already are! Me, I’m well….. let’s just say I have the husband that God saw fit to give me. Lol. There are days that I come home completely exhausted from work and I still must figure it all out, while my husband seems to be way too tired from his hardworking job!! So, if I could write him a letter it would go like this…..

Dear Husband,

Where I totally understand that you work oh so hard, I just wanted to remind you that so do I. I’m not sure if you remember, but this morning I woke up and got dressed for work too, and right after I finished getting me dressed I got a cranky three your old dressed as well. I stood in the bathroom while he peed and brushed his teeth, when I really needed to make the bed and start his quick breakfast. No worries though, because once he finished I did all of that!

I went to work and worked all day, just like you! I had to both listen to and resolve the problems of an entire caseload with a smile. And, when my supervisor asked me to do something 5 minutes before it was time to go, I did that too. Don’t fret though, I still made it to pick up our son and as soon as he got into the car I listened to all of his stories and was able to resolve where his missing Spider-Man was.

When I walked into the house door, I wasn’t greeted by cheer, but the pressure of preparing for the morning. I packed a lunch, prepared bath time, completed homework and learning time, cooked dinner, and wiped up crumbs that both you and my stepson seem to not see on the island or floor after you eat. I also, swept the kitchen floor up to clear away any extra food that was dropped and emptied the overflowing kitchen trash can that is only visible to me. Once all my maid duties were done I read a story to our son and tried to watch a part of something on television before drifting off to sleep.

I’m sure you’re wondering the purpose of this letter. The next time you want some special adult time or wonder why Mom is in such a funk, read this until you figure it out!

Love

Your Wife

LOL!!! Sometimes we just need to get a few things off our chest. When you want to kill you husbands next time Monumentals, just write a little letter for yourself. If you’re feeling bold go ahead and leave it on his pillow. Just don’t be alarmed if he doesn’t really get it! Lol

Twenty-Minute Workouts for Busy Moms

IMG_0289

Since becoming a Mom, I’ve found that it’s imperative to manage my time effectively especially since I don’t have a lot of uninterrupted time to myself. These days using the bathroom alone is kind of a big deal, LOL! There’s always something to be done around the house. The to-do lists are endless from grocery shopping to doing laundry, to teaching, and playing with and bathing a stubborn toddler! Whew, I’m exhausted just thinking about everything to do. Managing a house and taking care of a kid(s) is a full time job on top of my actual full time job so often times as Moms our health and fitness tends to take a back seat.

I don’t know about you, but after work I have to cook, clean and get a toddler ready for the next day. To spend an hour or two in the gym is just not practical in this current phase of my life. But I also want to be healthy as well as look good and feel good. Luckily, I’ve found three 20 minute workouts that are amazing! I love them because you can do them at home with or without the kids. They make you feel like you are about to die, which in this case is good, because you want to use your time wisely and feel like you’ve accomplished something! Also, the workouts on YouTube are free!

How To Protect Your Energy From Negativity

IMG_0283

When it comes to people’s energy, I’m really sensitive to it. I can feel if people are genuine or fake; even when they try really hard I can tell. Some people just give me bad vibes, it doesn’t have to be something that they have done but it’s the vibes that they give off. We all give off energy, whether good or bad. Energy can also be contagious. Have you ever noticed that when someone is in bad place and being really negative you start to feel negative as well? The same can be said with positive people with positive energy. Some people are like sunshine and you just want to soak up their good vibes, Lol!

IMG_0282

Since becoming a mother I’ve realized that my patience with people is very thin, especially when it comes to negative people. I try my best to avoid people and situations that can turn my positive energy into negative energy. However; we all have family members or coworkers that you simply can’t avoid forever. Below are some tips on how to protect your energy.

IMG_0278

1. Don’t engage the person and negativity.
When a person’s energy is off and they are expelling negativity, don’t engage them. If you do, the negativity just grows and you will find yourself in a negative state.

2. Avoid drama.
Drama and negativity go hand and hand. A person that’s full of drama has a lot of negativity around them, even if they don’t know it. Some people just can’t seem to get away from drama; but what kind of energy are they releasing into the universe?!

3. Control your own thoughts.
It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with work, life, children, etc and when that happens, our thoughts sometimes end up on the dark side. When feeling overwhelmed, take a step back and refocus. Instead of complaining, embrace gratitude and your attitude will change instantly!

4. Be careful what you focus on.
Have you ever noticed that the more energy you put into something the stronger the feeling or emotion becomes? If you are a worrier, then the more you worry about the problem the worse it becomes! Before you know it you are stressed out and have all sorts of crazy thoughts and scenarios in your head!

5. Be responsible for the energy that you bring.
It’s important to check yourself and your own energy. Life happens but how we respond to it is the true test.

Toddler Talk

IMG_3512

I’m sure that all parents can relate to this topic that small kids and toddlers will say whatever comes to their mind, no matter the time or place! Theses little guys have no filter. When Kodie gets diarrhea of the mouth, he mostly says things that are mean and or inappropriate.

IMG_3490

Sometimes, I’m so nervous when we are in public because he literally says whatever pops into his mind! Kodie has been fighting a virus so we have been back and forth to the doctors. While waiting in the lobby the other day he began pointing and said “Mom what’s that?” I started naming actual things such as the water fountain a picture etc. hoping that it would end there! I was praying that he wasn’t talking about the woman across from us. Yup, he surely was calling a person a that! He doesn’t understand that people are not called that and that everyone is not a him LOL. The woman said “are you talking to me?” and Kodie said yes, the woman was really nice and told him her name and asked him his. None the less, I was so mortified!

On another occasion we were in a super market and he was in the cart, we rode by an older woman and for some reason he thought it was appropriate to say eww eww! I was so embarrassed, I pushed the cart as fast as possible and just hoped that she didn’t hear him. To this day, I still don’t know what the problem was.

Also, another time while in the doctors office while the medical assistant asked us questions, Kodie just needed to know if his Aunt Kevia had her bra! Mind you-she wasn’t even there……really?! For some reason he has a fascination with bras and he always wants to know if I have my bra on LOL! When Kodie isn’t talking he’s growling and roaring at people! Sometimes, if Kodie is in one of his moods he will growl and roar at people when they speak to him. He spends a lot of time perfecting his roar and he even gives me lessons LOL! There is literally never a dull moment with a toddler around.

Marriage Chronicles-Part I

FullSizeRender
Marriage-A legal joining of two people, a union (dictionary.com)
I’ve been married for 5 years now and I will say that there are some things that my married friends and or family members failed to mention before I tied the knot. Don’t get me wrong, marriage is a beautiful thing, but with the wrong person it can be a disaster. I will also say that before marriage there were some things that I didn’t really consider. Below I’ve compiled a list of things that most people don’t talk about!

I love my husband……but
Although I love my husband I don’t always like him or the things that he does. There- I’ve said it! So now you know that you are not alone in this, Lol. The important thing to remember when these feelings arise is that they are temporary (hopefully, Lol). Try not to lash out or say something really mean that you may regret later. Sometimes it’s not even about your spouse when you feel this way, you may just be tired, hungry, or having a bad day.

Don’t Tell Everybody Your Business-This is some of the best advice that I’ve received. As women we are emotional and when we are upset we sometimes need to vent. This is fine, just be careful who you are venting to. I may be mad at my husband today and back to being his BFF tomorrow. Some people will throw your own words in your face.

Nothing Stays the Same-Most of us don’t think five, ten, or even fifteen years down the line when we are in wedded bliss. Life events happen such as having children, the loss of jobs, parents, and loved ones. When these things happen, they often change us. These major life events will be the true test of your marriage. It’s easy to love someone when everything in life is perfect, but when things get hard, ugly and messy it’s not always so easy.

It’s Ok to Still Be You-Early on in my marriage; I realized that although my husband and I are now a union, we also needed to maintain our individuality. He lets me be me and I let him be him, otherwise we both would have serious resentments.
Maintain a Sense of Humor-It’s important to still have fun together and laugh. Sometimes when the bills won’t stop, the baby won’t sleep, and then something breaks you literally want to scream and sometimes it’s at each other. When this happens find a reason to laugh.

Make Time for Sex-We are all super busy with careers and or raising children. The laundry and housework is never ending. The to-do- list is just that-a list-and it will be there tomorrow. As a working mother and wife, trust me I’m exhausted most of the time and can barely see straight, Lol. Many couples fail to make time to connect sexually and as a result they are even more stressed, angry, and the man is probably pissed and resentful! Sex is important in any relationship, especially a marriage. If someone tells you otherwise then don’t believe them.

Summer Time Fun on a Budget

Most kids can’t wait until school is out for the summer, but for parents it can be pretty stressful when trying to find activities for them. If you’re a parent who wants to keep your children entertained but you are on a tight budget, do a little online research before choosing activities.

IMG_0263
• Websites like Groupon and Living Social are your friend. They often have affordable deals and activities.

• Check out Home Depot’s website. They often have free monthly activities for children.

• Sometimes children just want to run around and be outside. The playground is always a free option. Annie’s playground in Fallston Maryland is a pretty cool option.

• Storyville at the library is a fun free option. The ages are from newborns to age 5 years.

• Gymboree and My Little Gym are good options for smaller kids. They often have free days where you can take your little one for free play. The ages range from newborn to 5 years old.

• If your budget is really tight, try incorporating at least one free activity such as the library, playground etc., and then you can take your child for ice cream or an inexpensive meal. Most restaurants have inexpensive kids meal options.

• The Baltimore zoo and Aquarium often have days when prices are cheaper.

• Try taking a walk to a park or your local reservoir; it’s free and gives your child the opportunity to explore nature.

• For swimming options, Codorus State park in Pennsylvania has a large pool and a small pool area for babies and toddlers. There is a fee but depending on your child’s height they may be able to swim for free!

Anytime I can find a deal or discount I get excited! Please feel free to share other tips for budget friendly activities for the little ones.

Waves and Water

IMG_8090

Summer is quickly approaching and vacation season has officially started. It’s that time of year where families will start venturing off to beaches, pools, water parks, amusement parks, and plenty of other places where our little people get wet. The number one thing that we want to be sure of when sending our little ones out to play in the water and sun is that we are prepared. Before you have your kids start their adventure, be sure to get some enjoyable books to share with your one about their upcoming escapade. The will help them learn more about water, and water safety. It will also get them even more excited. You should consider investing in swimming courses as well for your children. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention one out of every five people that die from drowning are under the age of 14. Swimming is an important skill for your kids to have and we can never be too safe. Now that we’ve looked at the basics, let’s review some additional water essentials:

Don’t forget:

-Water shoes are a must- let’s prevent any foot fungus or that nasty feeling from just walking around in nasty changing rooms, bathrooms, or having to get extra sand from between small toes.  Water shoes are an immense help. They provide coverage for the foot, while keeping their feet clean, and away from bumpy rocks.

-Life guard jackets: head to the store and purchase a life guard certified jacket for your little one. Don’t depend on faculties always having their sizes, or that they just won’t go that far in at the beach. It’s always important to be safe when water is involved.

-Purchase water proof phone cases to capture all the best pictures: you don’t want to miss a moment. You want to catch them running out when the water splashes up to surprise them, or they jump their first wave.

-Plan to spend endless hours wet: getting a kid to leave the water is nearly impossible! No matter how tired or hungry they are, they will refuse to leave no matter what!! Most kids are just naturally drawn to water!

-Sunscreen if it’s a day at the beach: never forget the sunscreen. The skin of children is a lot more sensitive than adults and burns a lot faster. Be sure to purchase a waterproof sunscreen to cover their skin.

-Ear plugs: if your child is ear infection prone, if you have a “splasher,” or a child who plays near one, ear plugs may be a clever idea. Water can get trapped in the ear and create a swimmer’s ear, causing a bad ear ache. Ear plugs help prevent this.

-Eye Protection: if your little one is a glasses wearer like mine, you will need a strap or another form of glasses to offer vision assistance when splashing around in and out of water.

IMG_8089

Here’s a few reasons why water play is important:

Decreases fear of water

Builds confidence

Good exercise

Increases social development from interaction with other kids

In younger children, it assists with developing fine motor skills. The squirting, pouring, and squeezing.

I’ll be posting some great places to take your kids to have some fun in the water and sun as well. Where it can be a lot of work to get out the house, and a long day at park or beach with your little one, I promise you that it will always be worth it!!!

I hope that your summer is full of splashes, sun, and fun!!

100 Posts Strong!

IMG_3035
I recently received a notification that Kristina and I have officially posted 100 blog posts to our WordPress website! We are both super excited! We started with just an idea and the goal was to become bloggers, LOL. Today I would say that our goals have expanded. We both love the connection that we make with people and the ability to put something positive out into the universe! In addition, we are both passionate about motherhood and love talking about our sons (LOL), so we figured why not write about them and our experiences of motherhood! It feels really good to look back on previous posts and know that we created something that is entertaining, helpful and so special to us. Kristina and I started when our boys were around 1 ½ and now they are both 3 years old. Whew, time sure does fly! Below I have compiled a few tips for people who would like to start blogging.
1. Blog like no one is reading.
This allows you to be your true and authentic self. I kind of view blogging as a diary; it can be very therapeutic to release your thoughts and ideas.
2. Write about topics that you want to read about.
This is often how I decide what my next topic will be about. We are all super busy, especially those Moms with little babies or super active toddlers LOL, so it’s important to get straight to the point and make the blog interesting.
3. Add pictures.
I find that pictures help to keep people’s attention, especially if the post is lengthy; the pictures kind of break it up. In addition, some people are visual like me, and the pictures help to draw people in.
4. Just don’t quit.
Like anything else consistency is key. Set a realistic expectation and make sure that you hold yourself accountable to it. There are times when you are super busy or life happens to get in the way, don’t get discouraged. Just read and keep blogging.
5. Last but not least…..have fun.
Blogging can be fun, not always but there are times when it is. In order to make blogging fun, be sure to write about fun topics or something that makes you laugh!

A Mother

I don’t believe that the life, actions, or nature of a mother can be defined. There is no precise way to bottle up everything that entails a mom into one definition. Moms are fluent, we are forever changing and evolving into what our families need. Take a moment to think of the process of becoming a mother. Our organs and bones shift, our hormones change, and our body grows to protect and accommodate a new life form. From those profound changes, we begin the process of forever changing. Chemically and internally our minds and bodies alter to make us more nurturing. Our bodies understand that we must produce milk and it magically does! Change for mothers doesn’t just stop there though. Watch a predator approach a mother animal’s offspring in the wild, you will see her immediately tense up and prepare to fight to the death. Every cell inside of her compels her to save her child’s life and potentially lose her own. As human mothers, we are no difference. It’s a instinct that’s triggered with motherhood. The changes don’t stop there. As our children age, we learn to be their friends, enemies, teachers, and so much more. The essence of motherhood is breathtaking.

If that doesn’t amaze you, look at the bond that mothers share with their children. Every ounce of pain that a child feels, a mother feels in tons. When we watch our babies sleep, we lay there exhausted, but unable to take our eyes off them. When our children become afraid or nervous they naturally search for us to comfort them. What amazes me the most, is how at birth they already know our voice and can detect us by smell.

I wrote all of that to say, if for any reason someone doesn’t celebrate Mother’s Day, or see it as such a big deal, they need to rethink their logic. Mothers are the backbone of humanity and the beauty that we see in the world. This Mother’s Day, I want every mother to be celebrated with love and appreciation. Moms……. know that without us, there is no anything. We are amazing!!!

Happy Mother’s Day Monumental Moms

Tips for the Expecting Mom

I’ve compiled some tips that I would not only use myself, but I would offer to an expecting first time mom. You can never fully prepare for the drastic change of motherhood, but you can try to plan as best as possible.
1. Take a vacation with your spouse.
It can be a weekend getaway, but it’s important to savor the alone time because once the baby comes, it might be a while before you two get some alone time!

2. Treat yourself to something really nice!
Now is the time to splurge before the baby’s arrival LOL! I mean it! Truly treat yourself to something that you have been eyeing but just haven’t purchased because you are trying to be practical. Trust me, once the baby is born your finances and priorities change! Your needs, wants, and desires will take a backseat immediately!

3. Savor the quietness.
Once you have a baby there won’t be a lot of quiet time. Especially if the baby is hungry, sleepy, teething, etc. I never realized how much I liked the quiet until I became a mom, LOL!

4. Appreciate your body now!
I have a few friends who don’t have children yet and they are often really critical of their bodies. Although your body may not be perfect pre-baby it will definitely be different after growing and birthing a baby.

5. Live in the moment.
Be adventurous and do things that you would not normally do before the baby comes. Getting out of our own comfort zone is hard! But once you become a mother, you feel a sense of empowerment and feel that you can do almost anything! You just may not have the time to do it, LOL!

6. Sleep now while you can!
Sleep like you’ve never slept before, LOL!! If you are tired, take a nap. If you are bored, tap a nap. If you are feeling adventurous take off work and take a nap! Sleep will never be the same post-baby, even once they sleep throughout the night your sleeping habits are never the same. You are on constant alert even when sleeping, LOL.

7. Cook and Freeze.
Once the baby comes, you won’t feel like cooking for a while. Toward the end of your pregnancy, cook some of your favorite foods and freeze them. You will thank yourself later!

To other moms, please feel free to leave some of your tips that you would give to an expecting Mom!
